Fibromyalgia & CBD

What is Fibromyalgia?

For those of you wondering what Fibromyalgia is, it is a syndrome condition that is not very well understood as of yet. Fibromyalgia symptoms are varied but usually include chronic pain around the body, muscle stiffness, headaches, fatigue (extreme tiredness/exhaustion) and poor sleep quality, which may severely affect a person’s day to day life. These are just a handful of symptoms in which someone may experience. Experts do not yet understand what causes fibromyalgia, but it is a long term condition, that may be linked to abnormal chemical activity within the brain.
There is currently no cure for Fibromyalgia, therefor leaving many people with no choice to take prescribed medication and painkillers on a daily basis.
Every person with fibromyalgia will experience it differently, so it is difficult to discuss how fibromyalgia will affect a person’s daily life. Some people feel that their fibromyalgia goes through stages where it flares up and then is in remission – the flare ups may last for varying lengths of time. Other people experience fibromyalgia symptoms constantly, and find that it affects their daily life more severely and in many cases leading them to experience anxiety and depression. As humans we all have an endocannabinoid system within our bodies. It is thought that fibromyalgia is one of the conditions caused by an endocannabinoid deficiency or dysregulation, although more data is needed to confirm this theory.
If a person’s body doesn’t produce a sufficient amount of endocannabinoids, they will be more sensitive to pain. Endocannabinoids are neuro-modulators and they regulate our perception of pain. Without a sufficient supply of endocannabinoids, the endocannabinoid system cannot properly do its job of maintaining balance in the body — and thus people with fibromyalgia experience more pain than what is usual. CBD can potentially help our endocannabinoid system. This is a good thing – supplementing with CBD can increase our levels of endocannabinoids and take care of the deficiency any of us may have.

Does CBD Help?

… there currently are no studies that have looked at CBD specifically for Fibromyalgia, but with the power of the internet, social media pages specifically for Fibromyalgia and many of our customers suffering with the condition, we have found that many people have reported that CBD has actually been very beneficial for them. They stated that their Fibromyalgia symptoms had in fact eased, with their pain levels decreasing, muscle stiffness reducing, sleep patterns improving and headaches occurring much less. They reported that due to taking CBD they feel much more relaxed and are now able to cope much better on a day to day basis. Although CBD hasn’t been specifically studied for Fibromyalgia, research has shown that is has been studied for conditions and symptoms which ofter occur in Fibromyalgia including nerve pain, joint pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This research has shed light on the ways that CBD could help with fibromyalgia symptoms and reporting that high-quality evidence supports the use of CBD to treat chronic pain and other symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia. There are a variety of ways you can consume CBD and its just about finding what way works best for you and your lifestyle. The individual needs of the person may vary and what works for one person may not work for you. CBD is also not classed as an official medication. Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness, and CBD will not cure it, but its much safer than many of the other pain-relieving options out there, like opiates or painkillers, that it is definitely worth a consideration.
